I was injured in December 2006 while performing Convoy Security operations in Northern Iraq. My heelbone was shattered and my femur broken when my truck struck an anti tank mine.

After nearly 3 months, and fighting MRSA, a resistant staph infection, I was given the option of a below knee amputation. I was very opposed at first, however after talking to some amputee climbers I realized I was making the decision between being an amputee or a cripple. I promply chose to get rid of my foot.

within 2 months of my amputation I was back to climbing. I became more and more active, and eventually was participating in more sports than I had pre injury. I started climbing ice in addition to my previous rock climbing, which has since led me to where I am now. In early May 2010 I am heading to Alaska to climb 3 alpine ice routes on 2 different mountains with a partner who is also an amputee.
It is with a great deal of excitement that I prepare to participate in the Sea to Shining Sea ride and the Soldiers To The Summit expedition!
