"Honor never grows old, and honor rejoices the heart of age. It does so because honor is, finally, about defending those noble and worthy things that deserve defending, even if it comes at a high cost. - William J. Bennett

Sergeant Marc Esposito is a U.S. Air Force Special Tactics Combat Controller from the 21 STS Pope AFB, NC. During a tactical operation, in a mountain pass of Afghanistan, his team was attacked by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). Their vehicle was hurled into the air and Marc, along with three others, was thrown from the vehicle. Marc was found on fire and unconscious, without pulse or respiration. Due to the actions and professional training of the Special Forces medic, he was able to keep his legs and survive. The surgeons who administered initial medical care remarked that: “if it were not for Sergeant Esposito’s excellent physical fitness, he would not be alive”. Marc credits his survival to the high physical fitness standards that are set by his brothers in the Combat Control career field and to the team’s medic who found and ministered to him on the field.

“The plan now is to recover, get back, and give back”, Marc says. He adds, “There are things in life that hurt more than IED’s…another 9/11 or terrorist attacks on schools…there are no words that can describe the pain…” He wants to do whatever it takes to benefit wounded warriors and hopefully give back at least a fraction of what was given to him.
